Braxton Hicks

No, this isn’t the country music singer that your cousin was talking about. 😉

In pregnancy, Braxton Hicks are a type of contraction that many women experience during pregnancy.

Braxton Hicks contractions are often felt in the late second trimester or third trimester. They are a tightening of the uterus that comes and goes but does not get longer, stronger or closer together. Most people would describe them as not painful, but occasionally you might find them uncomfortable.

Braxton Hicks contractions can be triggered by:

  • Dehydration

  • Having a full bladder

  • Physical Activity
